GUJ pays tribute to Lokmanya Tilak

PANAJI

The Goa Shramik Journalists Association (GUJ) paid tribute to Lokmanya Tilak on his death anniversary. Labour Commissioner Raju Gawas was the chief guest on the occasion.
While speaking on Tilak's journalism, Labour Commissioner Gawas mentioned the challenges faced at that time in the programme held at the office of GUJ's Shramshakti Bhavan in Patto, Panaji.
He spoke about how Tilak did not compromise on his principles while doing tough journalism and how he was prepared to face the consequences for it. He said that his contribution was not only limited to journalism but he forced the British government to withdraw its decision while standing shoulder to shoulder with Lala Lajpatrai and Bipin Chandra Pal in strongly opposing the partition of Bengal. He said that he made sincere efforts to resolve the complaints of journalists in Goa from time to time and that in 90 per cent of the complaints, the journalists were given justice.
The programme began with placing of floral wreaths on the image of the people and lighting the lamp. GUJ President Rajatilak Naik inaugurated the programme.
