Taking a serious view of delays in filing affidavits by government officers, the Panjim Bench of the Bombay High Court at Goa has fined the police department Rs 5,000 for delay in filing an affidavit in a petition relating to a police constable.
The court has asked the office of Director General of Police to pay the cost to the petitioner till the time government fixes responsibility as to who was responsible for the delay in filing the said affidavit and whether there was a need to recover that cost from him.
The court has also warned that it would take a serious view if the affidavit or payment of the fine is further delayed.
The High Court will now take up the matter on July 26.
The case relates to police constable Prasad Shirodkar moving the court over the non-payment of TA/DA during his transfer.
The government advocate had sought adjournment on three occasions for filling the affidavit.
