Margao Municipal Council’s controversial LDC recruitment process has finally reached the High Court after the process was challenged by two petitioners, including a candidate and a municipal staffer.
The hearing on the petition is scheduled to come up before the High Court on February 23. A notice to this effect was served on the Margao Municipal Chief Officer by the lawyer representing the petitioner, Adv Tarun Rebello.
While the first petitioner had challenged the recruitment process, the MMC staffer has raised questions on the recruitment of the site supervisor, contending that the post is required to be filled through departmental promotions.
Incidentally, the court notice was served on the council on a day (Feb 18) when the civic body had asked candidates who had cleared the tests to remain present in the municipality.
The process for the recruitment to fill up the vacant posts of 11 LDCs, site supervisor and the mason had kicked up a row, first over the long delay by the council to process the application forms and set in motion the examination process.
And when the MMC conducted the written tests, questions were raised over the manner in which the civic body went about the process after local NGOs claimed that some of the candidates did not receive the admit card from the civic body.
That’s not all. The recruitment process again came under the scanner over the criteria adopted for the cut-off passing marks, with citizens alleging that the cut-off pass marks were fixed to favour certain candidates.
