History enthusiasts revel in rich local heritage

History and heritage enthusiasts in Goa enjoyed a fascinating journey through the historic Govapuri landscape, the second capital of Goa after Chandrapur (modern-day Chandor), during the “Driving in Govapuri” event organized by Chicalim Bio-Crusaders.

On Monday, 27th May, over 65 participants embarked on this historical exploration, starting from the Pilar Seminary and concluding at the picturesque Siridao. Led by Cyril Aleixo Fernandes, President of Chicalim Bio-Crusaders, the event provided a detailed look into the region’s rich heritage.

Participants visited significant historical sites including the Buddhist cave at Pilar, later transformed into a synagogue, “Raj-vith” “ a highway constructed by the Kadambas, the ancient Govapuri Port, and the pre-Portuguese statues at Siridao. The journey also included a visit to the Siridao Synagogue, now known as the Jesus of Nazareth Chapel.
