MAPUSA: A house was gutted in a fire at Nachinola on Monday morning, damaging property worth about Rs 5 lakh.
The incident took place at about 10.50 am, when Dinesh Patekar and his family were not at home.
On noticing smoke from the house, the family of Dinesh’s brother notified the Mapusa fire station.
A fire tender rushed to the site and brought the fire under control. By then, the fire had gutted cupboards, beds, fridges, TVs, clothes, and other household appliances, as well as the roof. The fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit.
Mapusa police later conducted a panchnama of the incident. Local panch members visited the spot and took stock of the damage.
