Anjuna local Pritesh Borkar is set to walk out of the jail over two months after the Osmania University police (Hyderabad-Telangana) arrested him in connection with inter-state drug smuggling. Among other conditions, the suspected peddler was granted bail by the Metropolitan Court in Hyderabad on furnishing a personal bond with a surety of the like amount.
Borkar was picked up by the Hyderabad police from Anjuna in August and taken to Hyderabad. While his family accused Borkar was 'kidnapped' on August 2, the Hyderabad police officially registered an offense against him on August 16, 2022. His confession led to names of prominent drug peddlers and close to 200 consumers spread across the country.
Curlies' Edwin Nunes, Hilltop owner John Stephen D'Souza alias Steve and others from Goa were named as accused in the FIR.
Borkar's first bail application on September 22 was rejected but in a fresh plea on October 18, he was granted bail. Steve was the first to get bail this week whereas Nunes has withdrawn his anticipatory bail plea in Supreme Court. His fresh anticipatory bail petition before the High Court will be heard on October 31.
Meanwhile, the police have zeroed in on one Shyam Singh Thakur for his alleged involvement in trading MDMA and LSD. The accused is believed to have told the police that Nunes supplied drugs to him. A separate offense is registered against Thakur, Nunes, Steve and Borkar.
