MARGAO
Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai has said demanded that the government invoke the National Security Act against criminal elements threating peace and the security of the state.
Saying that he would not tolerate any criminal activity or gang wars in his Fatorda constituency, Sardesai said he has told the police top brass to immediately arrest the assailants in the murderous assault at Mungul on Tuesday.
“Today, we have been told that guns and koitas were freely used in the assault. The gang wars have gone too far. Without protection from the police, this cannot take place”, he added.
The Fatorda MLA said the police should investigate how illegal fire arms have landed in the hands of these criminal elements.
“There is political protection given to the gang. The youngsters involved in the assault are patronized by the ruling political class. The police should find out how an unlicensed gun has come in the hands of these criminal elements. The fire arm is not a kata (Country made gun), but a proper fire arm”, he said, demanding to know who these fire arms are freely available in the state.
He added: “The police should get to the bottom of the case. If arms are freely used by criminal elements to spread fear and terror, the government should invoke the National Security Act against the assailants”.
