It’s official: e-visas accepted at Mopa

PANAJI
The Manohar International Airport at Mopa has officially started accepting e-visa applications.

“We are thrilled to announce that MIA is now accepting e-visa. If this is your first time landing at GOX, make your way to the immigration. Your co-operation is highly valued...” reads a message by GOX authorities on social media account.

The announcement comes as a significant relief for international travellers as earlier reports of the service not being available at the new airport - that would have led to immediate deportation of the passenger - caused panic. This development has also brought considerable relief to the coastal State, especially as the tourist season inches closer. Despite the commencement of international flights at MIA, the e-visa service was only available at Dabolim airport and not extended to MIA.

The Goan was the first to publish the news on August 9 with stakeholders and passengers raising a concern. The matter was subsequently discussed in the recently held monsoon session of legislative assembly wherein GFP President Vijai Sardesai sought immediate solution. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant then assured to inquire into the issue and take required measures in favour of Goa.

“VIJAI EFFECT! On 8th of August, our @PresidentGFP @VijaiSardesai had demanded in the #House that all flights from #London be shifted to #Dabolim @aaigoaairport until e-visa facility is introduced. The authorities have seen the light, and passengers will not be inconvenienced,” the party’s official Twitter handle stated.

In a related development, Oman Air has revealed plans to relocate its flight operations from Dabolim to Mopa starting October 29, 2023.
