Jharkhand youth walking on tracks with earphones fatally hit by train near Sancoale

PANAJI: A 23-year-old man from Jharkhand died after being hit by a train this morning while walking on the railway tracks near Sancoale with his earphones on.

The incident took place around 8 am between Cansaulim and Sancoale, at kilometre 99/5-6, according to a wireless message from the Vasco Railway Police Station. A memo from the Deputy Station Master at Vasco stated that the man was seen walking in the middle of the tracks, wearing earphones and speaking on his mobile phone, when he was struck by an oncoming train.

According to the train manager, repeated warning horns were sounded, but the man failed to respond and was fatally hit. Railway police and officials who reached the spot found the victim lying beside the tracks with multiple injuries. He was declared dead on the spot.

Police completed all formalities at the scene, and the body was shifted to the South Goa District Hospital (SGDH) morgue in Margao for preservation and post-mortem.

Vasco Railway Police have ruled out foul play and registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
