Karnataka eases curbs, begins bus service to Goa

BELAGAVI

With the Karnataka government easing restrictions since Monday and permitting bus operations, the first bus from Karnataka reached Goa on Tuesday morning.

A North West Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) left from Vijaypura on Tuesday morning and reached Panaji via Anmod in the afternoon.

According to official sources, the bus took a batch of workers from Vijaypura who had left Goa after the announcement of curfew there. All those travelled had carried a Covid negative report in order to comply to the norms by the Goa government.

Thousands of migrant workers from north Karnataka region who are working in Goa are waiting to get back to join their work as life has become difficult for them with no other source of livelihood in Karnataka.

When contacted, NWKRTC Controller Lamani said bus services from Belagavi to Goa will resume only after Goa relaxes the RTPCR/Covid negative report for passengers entering the state.

“While our authorities have given green signal in operating the buses, we are still observing the situation in Goa and also waiting for the situation to become normal. If the Goa government relaxes the curfew norms and exempt workers from RTPCR negative report, it will be easy for us to restart our services to Goa,” Lamani said.
