Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) supremo Arvind Kejriwal and other party leaders hailed the victory of its candidate Hanzel Fernandes in the Benaulim ZP seat and also for the overall performance of the party in the Zilla Panchayat elections, the results of which were declared on Monday.
"Congratulations to AAP's Hanzel Fernandes on winning the Benaulim ZP seat in Goa. Many other AAP candidates have secured a much higher vote share than last time. This is just the beginning. I am sure AAP will live up to the trust and expectations of Goans," Kejriwal tweeted.
AAP Goa in-charge Atishi tweeted, "Congratulations to Hanzel Fernandes for his victory in the Benaulim ZP seat in Goa. We thank the people of Benaulim for the trust they have reposed in AAP Goa. I am confident that this is the beginning of many successes of AAP in Goa!"
AAP Goa convener Rahul Mhambre pointed out that the vote share of his party has increased in all the constituencies it has contested and said this is a clear sign that Goans have accepted AAP as the true voice of Goans.
“Our continued emphasis on governance or mis-governance by exposing BJP’s inability to run the affairs in Goa and the Congress’ inefficiency in dealing with the matter concerning Goa has resulted in the increase of our vote share in every constituency we contested,” he said.
He also pointed out that in many constituencies AAP candidates polled more votes than the Congress candidate thus establishing the fact that Goans are looking at AAP as an alternative to the ruling BJP.
Mhambre pointed out that AAP secured 12.5 per cent votes in the 21 constituencies it contested from winning one of them.
"We won in Benaulim and we're in the second position in Corlim thus indicating that AAP is accepted all over Goa," he said while admitting that there are many more miles to travel.
"The Zilla Panchayat results have been a real morale booster and our volunteers are now geared to face the assembly elections," he said.
