The Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) interstate buses have been fully booked during Ganesh Chaturthi, with demands for additional buses on certain routes.
Barely days after resuming interstate bus services to neighbouring districts of Karnataka and Maharastra, the KTC has recorded huge demand for bookings as people were travelling to their native places to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi.
"Every year, KTC plies around 17 extra buses on certain routes like Goa-Karwar, Goa-Sawantwadi and Goa-Belgaum. However this year, we could only provided four extra buses on the Goa-Karwar route and one extra bus on the Goa-Sawantwadi route,” said a KTC official.
KTC is reported to have had problems to ply additional buses between Goa and Maharastra, as the Maharashtra government had raised objections to the additional KTC buses.
“We somehow persuaded the collector of Sindhudurg to grant permission to ply extra KTC buses during Chaturthi, but he allowed us only one additional bus,” the official said.
“The additional bus which plied between Goa and Sawantwadi was fully booked.”
The official said the KTC has decided to start bus services to its routes in Maharashtra in full swing from Monday.
Incidentally, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has been plying buses on various routes between Karnataka and Goa, but the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) is yet to resume its interstate services to Goa.
