KTC to implement 50 pc fare discount for working women

PANAJI

The proposal mooted by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant of 50% concession in bus fares for working women is being worked on and is expected to be implemented soon at first by the State-carrier Kadamba Transport Corporation Limited (KTCL).

The scheme being worked out by the KTCL will also bring under the apprentices and also employees of the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation (GHRDC), a senior official said, adding that it will be implemented through an e-pass.

Young women working in the private sector in the State will be given the 50 per-cent discount on bus fares, Sawant had recently announced at the inauguration of the revised 'Amchi Bus' scheme.

The KTC official said the Chief Minister's instructions on the scheme are being worked on and it is being drafted only for women working in the private sector by the office of the Labour Commissioner.

"This will give us a clear picture of the number of women working in the private sector and help us in implementing the scheme properly," the official said.

Data on female workers will be continuously tracked through the Labour Commissioner's office on a monthly basis when the scheme is implemented as it will help in updating the eligible beneficiaries roster by eliminating women who quit working, the official added.
