The police have conceded mounting tension between residents and tourists in the Latin Quarter, as the latter -- whether by ignorance or disregard -- are constantly invading private residential spaces despite it being well-marked as a housing area and no-motorised zone.
However, as no formal complaints for a cognizable offence have yet been filed, police state their hands are tied. Nevertheless, patrolling by the local beat and Pink Police Force remains routine daily including night hours.
“Our patrolling teams cover the Sao Tome and Fontainhas areas besides other assigned locations, and the Pink Police Force also have their presence,” a senior officer confirmed speaking to 'The Goan'.
The local intelligence unit is also occasionally posted to monitor the lanes closely as an added precaution, given that this area also has a huge presence of restaurants and clubs attracting crowds.
The department is also contemplating deploying traffic personnel during peak hours to ease the situation, as there have been complaints of wrong parking, honking, and entering no-entry lanes despite signage.
