Locals' hardships overlooked, admits mayor

PANAJI

Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) mayor Rohit Monserrate on Monday admitted that local residents had not been taken into confidence over the hardships they would face in the duration of the ongoing 'Smart City' works in the capital.

Monserrate, who was speaking to the media on the sidelines of the Smart City CEOs conference, said in many localities  residents had been greatly inconvenienced by the contractors blocking accesses and  roads.

"We have to take them (local residents) into confidence over the inconvenience caused and sort it out," he said, adding that in some areas contractors have been asked to stop work.

Monserrate Jr is on the IPSCL BoD along with his father Atanansio (Babush) Monserrate, who is a cabinet minister and also the MLA of Panaji.

He said by October the 'Universal pavements' and sewerage work will be completed after which restoring the roads will be taken up.
