Velsao residents on Tuesday afternoon stopped a survey by officers of the tourism department on the beach. Sources said the survey by Tourism department was stopped by villagers after assuming that the survey was linked to setting up of jetties along the beach and that the jetties could be used to offload coal in the village. However, Velsao Panch Francis Braganza said the survey was stopped after tourism department officials could not provide official documents, when confronted by the locals. "I was in a meeting when I started getting calls about the survey and I reached the site. When I questioned the officials, they told me that they were doing a survey but they did not have any documents. Secondly, they did not inform the panchayat about the survey and since we had no information, people stopped their survey. We will not allow any survey without valid documents, approvals and information to Panchayat. We will allow this survey only if it is legal and with proper relevant documents," said Braganza.
