It’s exactly a month since the Benaulim-Seraulim stretch of the Margao western bypass was commissioned at the hands of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Measures mooted for the service roads at Benaulim, including the installation of rumblers and changes to the existing rumbler sticks, seem to have not yet fallen into place.
In fact, the speed breakers mooted by the authorities to regulate the speed of vehicles on the service roads at Benaulim have been pending to date. These and other issues were discussed at a meeting chaired by South Goa District Collector Egna Cleetus with Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, as well as RTO and police officials.
Later briefing the media, the Benaulim MLA informed that the meeting discussed the issue of pending speed breakers on the service roads, adding that the meeting has decided to execute the work by February 28. He said the speed breakers were all inspected by the authorities, but they have not been notified. “The western bypass has eight service roads. During the inspection, it was decided to increase the height of the rumblers. It has been decided at today’s meeting to execute the works as per the deadline,” he added.
The meeting also discussed the installation of dividers, speed breakers, and signboards on the Colva-Mungul road.
The Benaulim MLA said the meeting also set a deadline for the execution of rickshaw stands at Maria Hall, Benaulim, and other places.
The stray dog menace along the Salcete coastal belt also figured in the meeting, with the MLA seeking the intervention of government authorities in addressing the burning issue.
