MARGAO
Margao Municipality has resumed its drive against unscrupulous garbage collection contractors and miscreants disposing of waste at the city’s black spots after sunset.

The drive, which started on Tuesday in the Fatorda area of the city, was carried out in Margao on Wednesday, with the MMC team led by sanitary inspector Sanjay Sanguelkar intercepting over a dozen miscreants dumping waste at the black spots.

If the MMC team caught around nine persons red-handed on Tuesday at Fatorda, three persons were caught at the black spot near the Comba subway on Wednesday evening.

Till late in the evening, the team led by Sanitary Inspector Sanjay Sanguelkar was stationed at the black spot to rein in the miscreants.

Around three cases were booked by the team on Wednesday evening. A two-wheeler rider, who dumped damaged cushions at the site, was fined Rs 500 and made to lift the waste.

Municipal Engineer Deepak Desai told the media that the drive has been undertaken in view of the sudden rise in garbage disposal at the black spots. “We have been told by the workers that garbage disposal at the black spots has increased in the last few days. The drive has been taken up to rein in the unscrupulous elements and to keep the city clean,” he said.

The Municipal Engineer made a fervent plea to the people to call the Civic body on the helpline in case of any difficulty in disposing of the garbage, saying the municipal team will attend to their grievances promptly.
