PANAJI
In perhaps a first in the annals of the Goa legislative assembly, the WRD Minister Subhash Shirodkar was stopped during his reply speech to the discussion on the demands for grants, and the House abruptly adjourned for 10 minutes a little before 7 pm by Deputy Speaker Joshua D'Souza, who was in the chair and presiding over the proceedings then.
D'Souza gave no reasons for the abrupt adjournment of the proceedings but it turned out that in that 10-minute break a cake was waiting to be cut by birthday boy Mauvin Godinho, in the ruling party's lobby.
Legislators from both sides were present in the lobby to partake in the singing and cake cutting, which has no known precedent in the annals of the Goa legislature, where ongoing proceedings were adjourned to facilitate such an impromptu celebration.
