The Education department’s proposal to increase the mid-day meal cooking cost was finally approved at a time when SHGs warned to halt the supply owing to the financial crisis.
As per the hiked proposal, the cost per meal for the primary level will increase from Rs 6.11 to Rs 8 approx while for the upper primary Rs 10 approx from Rs 7.50.
“The file is cleared from the finance department. We are waiting for the order,” an official said.
This will be the fourth increase since 2015 even as the increase by the Centre and the State’s fund share is 60:40. The department will also add fortified rice as well as wheat (100 gms for primary and 150 gms for upper primary) to each meal by December.
