Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) which recently faced a revolt from a faction led by former Ponda legislator Lavu Mamledar, on Wednesday announced it will hold organisational elections for the president's post and a to elect its central committee on January 16 next year.
Current Party chief Deepak Dhavlikar told the media that this decision was taken at the central committee meeting held on Wednesday.
The party organisational elections are now overdue and with the party making no preparations to hold the process saw the Mamledar faction raise the banner of revolt.
The group even moved a no-confidence motion against Dhavlikar for his removal from the top party post arguing that the party was hijacked by the Dhavlikar brothers, ignoring inner-party democracy.
Meanwhile, Dhavlikar said the MGP if voted to power and forms the government will also provide free electricity to Goans.
The move comes after Aam Aadmi Party recently launched a ground campaign to familiarise Goans to their Delhi government's electricity model where bills of consumers using up to 200 units is nil and those consuming up to 400 unit get 50 per cent subsidy.
