None other thanGoa’s Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister Subhash Shirodkar told themedia that the Goa government had spoken to the Union Home Minister on Mhadeiin the past and will discuss with him the issue during Sunday’s visit.

When the mediaquestioned the WRD Minister whether Mhadei will figure in the discussions the governmentand BJP will have with the Union Minister on Sunday, Shirodkar shot back saying,“Amit Shah is a national and world leader. He will give what Goa wants. I amconfident about that.”

When the mediafurther quizzed Shirodkar seeking to know whether he will speak to the UnionHome Minister on Mhadei, he again shot back saying, “We had spoken to the UnionMinister and we will do so when he visits the State on Sunday. Yes, indeed wewill discuss with Amit Shah the Mhadei issue.”

When the mediafurther drew Shirodkar’s attention to Amit Shah’s speech in Belagavi sometimeback when the Union Minister had announced that the Mhadei issue has beenresolved in consultation with Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, the WRDMinister wriggled himself out of the controversy by saying, “Amit Shah is anational leader. I am confident that he would protect the interest of Goa onMhadei.”

Subhash Shirodkar’s comments on Mhadei assumessignificance since he not only presides over the WRD portfolio, but is the chairmanof the House Committee appointed by the Goa Legislative Assembly to protect theinterests of Goa on the river dispute with neighbouring Karnataka.
