With the National Informatics Centre (NIC) not responding to the request of the Margao Municipal Council to set up an Aadhar-based bio-metric finger attendance for its employees, the civic body is now weighing other options, including roping in the Directorate of Information Technology to set up the attendance recording mechanism.
Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer Gaurish Sankhwalkar told the media that the delay in switching over to the bio-metric finger scan readers for recording employees’ attendance is due to the no response from the NIC till date.
“We had made our application to the NIC to set up the Aadhar-based bio-metric finger scan reader in the civic body. We have not received any response till now. We will wait for the next two days before roping in other agencies to do the job,” the Chief Officer said.
Saying that the Directorate of Information Technology has offered to set up the system for the municipality, Sankhwalkar said the IT officials have inspected the building, adding that the civic body will have to issue a formal letter to the department for them to come and install the system.
To the question whether the bio-metric finger scan reader will become a reality from the New Year, the MMC Chief Officer said that all efforts will be made to implement the system from December 1.
The Director, Urban Development had in September last directed all the urban local bodies to implement the bio-metric finger scan reader for recording of the employees’ attendance.
