Goa has recorded below-normal rainfall so far this month with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa recording just 89.3 mm of rain against the normal 152 mm for this period. The figures indicate a deficit of 41.3 per cent.
The monsoon had arrived 12 days ahead of schedule but has since shown limited intensity.
The State was on a yellow alert on Monday with thunderstorms and lightning reported in isolated areas. Light to moderate rainfall was observed across both the districts. However, the day remained hot and humid with the maximum temperature recorded at 30.4°C and the ‘feels like’ temperature peaking at 38.3°C.
Further, the IMD Goa has forecast a marked increase in rainfall activity over the next 4-5 days. For June 10 and 11, a Green Alert (no warning) has been issued with light to moderate rain likely. On June 12, a Yellow Alert will be in place, with moderate rainfall expected across Goa and heavy to very heavy rain at isolated locations.
This will be followed by Orange Alert on June 13, when the State is likely to witness moderate rainfall along with heavy to very heavy showers and extremely heavy rainfall in isolated areas.
On June 14 and 15, the alert level will return to Yellow, with moderate rainfall and the possibility of heavy showers in some parts of both districts.
The IMD noted that monsoon conditions were considered normal over the state from Sunday to Monday morning, with widespread light to moderate rain and thundershowers, along with isolated heavy rainfall.
