The annual south-west monsoon skipped its May 27 date with Kerala forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) which has now forecast that it will likely happen in the next 2-3 days.
The latest forecast from the IMD says the conditions are favourable for the onset of the monsoon over Kerala during the next 2-3 days.
The date the monsoon hits Kerala is crucial as it gives an ideal of more or less when the monsoon will begin in Goa, which is usually in less than a week.
In the last 10 years the time taken for the monsoon to reach Goa from Kerala has varied between one and 12 days.
The IMD also said that the conditions are favourable for the Southwest monsoon to advance into some other areas of the Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep in the same period.
The IMD release said, it was already advanced into South Arabian Sea, entire Maldives and Lakshadweep.
In its previous comprehensive forecast about the monsoon, the IMD had predicted that it would set over Kerala by May 27, which was five days before it normally hits on June 1. It had, however, issued a disclaimer of a possible 'model error' of plus or minus 4 days.
