The flagship greenfield Mopa International Airport is likely to be completed and commissioned by August 2022.
"I am happy to say that the construction work of Mopa Airport Project is in full swing and it is expected to be completed and commissioned in August 2022," Koshyari said in his address, adding that MORTH has also cleared Expressway connectivity between the airport and the National Highway-66 (formerly NH-17).
Originally, the first phase of the airport being executed by GMR Infra as the Concessionaire was to be commissioned in September last year but environmental litigations and local objections delayed the project.
Locals and farmers affected by the upcoming Mopa airport have been demanding adequate compensation for the land lost due to the acquisition.
The phase-I is to have a capacity of catering to 4.5 million passengers and three more phases will hike it to 13 million.
Interestingly these are pre-pandemic projections and there is no indication whether these have been reviewed in light of the devastation faced by aviation globally.
