The Mopa panchayat on Friday passed a 6-point resolution to benefit locals and demand compensation to farmers affected by the upcoming airport.
The resolutions, which include permanent jobs to those whose lands have been acquired for the airport, preference to local taxi operators and pre-training to youth to be employed, were passed during a panchayat meeting, chaired by Sarpanch Sarswati Naik.
Deputy Sarpanch Subodh Mahale and panchas, Madhusudan Sawant, Prasad Mahale, Dipak Tamboskar annd Vithu Mahale were present at the meeting.
Subodh Mahale, who is also a leader of the Mopa Airport Sangharsh Samiti, informed the panchayat the Samiti had conducted awareness campaigns in five villages which are affected by the airport.
He also demanded that the company setting up the airport withdraw all complaints filed against the protesters.
"If we do not get our rights despite polite requests, we will agitate on the streets. Various organisations such as the Bodgeshwar Shetkari Sanghatana, Kul Mundkar Sanghatana, Goencho Avaaz, Pernem Nagrik Samiti, Swabhimani Pernem Sanghatana and People for Mopa have pledged their support to our cause," said Mahale.
