The mother as well as women and child rights activists have demanded the arrest of the teacher allegedly involved in the assault on a Canacona school child.

The boy’s mother, besides activists Tara Kerkar and Vikas Bhagat have on Wednesday demanded the immediate arrest of the school teacher.

Addressing the media, the mother of the child informed that the school teacher had called on her ward convalescing at the South Goa district hospital and apologized for the incident.

“The teacher should be arrested for the way my son was beaten up leading to the injuries”, the mother informed.

Activist Tara Kerkar lamented over the rising number of incidents against children despite the laws protecting children in force. “The teacher does not deserve any leniency. He has no right to approach the victim. He should be booked for intimidating the child and his parents to compromise the matter”, Tara said.

Demanding the immediate arrest of the teacher, Tara said such teachers should not be granted bail by the Courts to act as a deterrent for others.

Activist Vikas Bhagat demanded that the Education department initiate strict action against the teacher for the assault on the minor student. “What has happened is bad and condemnable. I demand that the Education department takes strong cognizance of the incident and initiate action against the teacher”, Vikas demanded.
