A section of Goa’s unique motorcycle-taxi riders, fondly called ‘pilots’ have taken to technology and have been operating through an app-based serviced styled ‘Uber Moto’ even as officials of the the Regional Transport Office (RTO) are examining the legality of the operations.
Sources said, the transport department has used a decoy customer to confirm the operation of the app-based motorcycle-taxi service and has even recorded a statement from one of the ‘pilots’.
A top official in the Transport department meanwhile told The Goan that the law is vague and the issue is being examined as to what action, if any, can be taken.
The Goa government had notified a policy for taxi aggregators after the tussle between the GTDC facilitated Goa Miles and Goa’s traditional taxi associations heated up some two years ago. However, it did not cover the traditional motorcycle-taxis.
