Slamming the construction of the new beef and pork complex as an ill-planned project, Mapusa councillor Shashank Narvekar said the complex was nothing but sub-standard reconstruction of old stalls without any foresight and waste of tax payer’s money.
“It is shocking to see that instead of upgrading and improving the infrastructure and preparing the market for the next 10 to 20 years, we have been given stalls which don’t have even a washing facility. Shabby construction, no exhaust system, no drainage and a total lack of basic facilities have today been thrust upon us by persons not having even the slightest plan or vision of where they want to take Mapusa,” Narvekar said.
Shashank Narvekar is one of the nine opposition backed group of councillors who were elected in the civic elections in Mapusa. Four of them including the current chairperson later switched sides and joined the BJP-backed panel to form the council.
According to Narvekar the basic and most important need of any meat complex in any state or country around the world is the slaughter house where poultry and livestock can be slaughtered, cleaned and cut.
He further said the animal remains and waste needs to be treated in a digester and then sent out as manure instead of being thrown out into the nullah as was the practice.
“The existing fish and meat complex and the new beef and pork complex are two concrete disasters which are unsanitary, unhygienic, unplanned and an outrageous waste of municipal funds,” he said.
