Night construction has its own difficulties: Contractor

MAPUSA

While night‐time construction offers the benefit of lighter traffic, contractors and experts caution that it brings its own set of difficulties.

One contractor involved in the project observed: “Working overnight means limited light, higher safety risks, more expensive shifts and the need for extra lighting, supervision and security.”

Experts note several factors that must be managed properly: labour availability during night shifts; noise and light pollution disturbing nearby residents; coordination of heavy equipment movement at odd hours; and ensuring that traffic diversions and barricades are safe in the dark.

The elevated corridor at Porvorim is viewed as a key intervention to ease the bottleneck along the busy highway stretch.

Officials say coordination between the various departments, timely execution of works and careful traffic management will be crucial to meeting project deadlines and limiting disruption.

If the night-work proposal is approved, it may allow faster progress “ but only if the extra logistical, safety and community-disturbance issues are properly addressed.

With the tourist season already underway and traffic volumes expected to rise, the coming weeks will test the administration’s ability to balance infrastructure needs with commuter convenience and resident comfort.
