Inquiry conducted by the South Goa district hospital over claims that a baby boy got exchanged in the hospital after a caesarean delivery has revealed that sheer misunderstanding of the communiqué led to the row of sorts.
In fact, South Goa district Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Rajendra Borkar went into a huddle with hospital doctors and staff before an interaction with the parents of the new born. Dr Borkar explained to the parents that an inquiry conducted by the consultant heading the gynaecology has revealed that the birth of the baby girl finds mention everywhere on the records, right from the time the woman delivered the baby in the Operation theatre. “After checking the inquiry report and the hospital records, it was evident that sheer misunderstanding has resulted in the parents to believe that the woman had given birth to a baby boy. I had an interaction with the parents and explained them that nowhere does the records speak of the woman delivering a baby boy. The birth of the baby girl is found everywhere on the hospital records”, Dr Borkar said.
Given that the husband of the woman had made a plea to the district hospital to conduct required tests such as DNA, blood cross match or any other test may be conducted to determine whether the child handed over to them is their child, Dr Borkar said he has told the parents they are free to have these tests at the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim if they so wish.
The controversy of sorts arose after the relatives claimed that the sister on duty had informed that the woman had delivered a baby boy. On that day, around eight caesarean deliveries had taken place, six baby girls and two baby boys.
