No Sunburn permission, till they have land to host event: Minister

Panaji: Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte today said that unless the Sunburn organizers get proper land to host the event, with the required NOC for the same, the tourism department will not grant any permission.

Khaunte said that Sunburn organizers had submitted a proposal about five months ago to hold the event in South Goa, but they did not have land for the venue.

"So far, no new proposal has been sent to the tourism department," he said.

Tourism Minister made it clear that the event will only be approved if the organizers find a venue and get the necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs).

"If they get all the required permissions, we will process their request," said Khaunte.

Meanwhile, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said that Sunburn should not be forced on the people of South Goa if they don’t want it.

He mentioned that he supports the event as long as it follows all rules and regulations, especially for a "Clean Sunburn."

Lobo also pointed out that most people in Goa are not willing to accept Sunburn, except for those in his constituency. He recalled that the festival used to be held in Candolim and later in Vagator, which he believes is a good location. He suggested the government should discuss with officials to find the best place for Sunburn, one that has all the necessary facilities.

Lobo warned that holding Sunburn in South Goa could lead to protests, with thousands of people potentially taking to the streets, which would embarrass the state. He added that if another village in Goa is ready to host the festival, he would support it. Otherwise, his constituency is willing to organize the event.
