Attempts by the Margao Municipal technical section to go for the remaining two bio-methanation plants even before the commissioning and testing of the plant under construction has found no takers.
In fact, Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and his Fatorda counterpart Vijai Sardesdai said there’s no question of the MMC awarding work orders for the remaining two bio-methanation plants when the Chief Minister-led High Powered Coordination Committee (HPCC) has been clear that the fate of the two plants will be decided only after the successful testing of the first plant.
The Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai went a step further in opposing any move to award work order for the remaining two plants, saying these plants were proposed when there was no elected council, adding “since an elected council is in place, elected by the people of Margao and Fatorda, the Council will take a call on the bio-methanation plants”.
Sources said the technical section has already sent the two files to the chamber of the Chief Officer with a plea to issue the work order when the Chief Minister-headed HPCC was categorical in saying that work on the two plants should not start till the first plant is successful commissioned.
“I have nothing to say on the moves being made in the MMC to issue work order for the remaining two plants. The fact remains that the HPCC was categorical in saying these two plants will be taken up for construction after the efficacy of the first plant is tested”, Kamat said.
The Chief Officer pointed out that he would go by the decision of the HPCC, further pointing out that he is a party to the decision, having attended the meeting convened by the Chief Minister earlier this year.
