Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday stressed the need to conduct third year exams offline as it carries more weightage particularly when it comes to obtaining jobs in private companies.
Sawant also said that the Goa University took the decision to hold offline exams after holding discussions with various educational institutions and companies.
“When third year exams are conducted online then their mark sheets do not command value in private companies and the students find it difficult to get jobs in the private sector. Online exams for the first and second year are fine but for the betterment of the future of the students, third year exams have to be offline,” Sawant said.
Taking into account the Covid situation in the State, the Goa University had recently issued a circular stating that all final (third) year graduate and post graduate exams will be conducted offline while all other examinations will be online.
A section of the student community and the opposition parties have been demanding to hold all exams online on account of Covid spike.
The chief minister informed that Goa University arrived at the decision only after holding discussion with companies and other associations.
“The decision to hold offline exams was taken not because we want it, but taking the interest and for the future of the students. I have personally spoken to the Vice Chancellor,” he said.
