The State government has conceded to instances of firearm misuse by licence holders but reported no cases of misuse by others or theft of these firearms.
Responding to Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira’s unstarred question, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that 3,473 persons hold registered firearms licences in the State of whom 1,887 are registered in North Goa and 1,586 in South Goa.
These licences are primarily issued for crop protection, self-protection and sports. However, the government declined to disclose details of the licence holders, citing concerns over privacy, safety and security.
