In a major development, the complaint lodged by Margao Municipal Chief Officer Melvyn Vaz against a senior Municipal Councilor Sadanand Naik on Monday for the alleged assault on a Municipal engineer has been withdrawn on Tuesday.
The sudden turn of events came within 24 hours after Margao MLA Digambar Kamat had a meeting at his residence of Tuesday. The meeting was attended by Chief Officer Melvyn Vaz, besides Margao Municipal Chairperson Damu Shirodkar, Councillor Sadanand Naik, his wife and MMC vice-Chairperson Babita.
What transpired at the meeting is not known, but if sources are to be believed, the meeting took stock of the situation, including the factor that the incident has tarnished the image of ruling BJP group, which is controlling the civic body.
Sources informed that the Chief Officer was requested to withdraw the complaint and to settle the issue amicably between the Municipal engineer Vinay Desai and Councillor Sadanand Naik.
Left with no option, the Chief Officer is believed to have sent a written request to the Margao police to keep the complaint on hold since the two parties have decided to amicably address the issue.
