In yet another instance questioning the conduct of the police, the Judicial Magistrate First Class (FIR) at Mapusa has issued a show cause notice to Porvorim Police Inspector Anant Gaonkar for not complying with its order to register a murder case into a suspicious death reported in January 2022.
The notice was issued based on a petition filed by one Melcy Pinto, who accused the PI of not registering murder case in her father Nicolao Pinto’s death on January 3, 2022. The victim was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Britona which followed a complaint seeking murder charges, even as the police registered a case of unnatural death.
In her petition, Melcy pointed out disobedience to the JMFC order and named the suspected persons behind her 59-year-old father’s death.
Conceding contempt of the court, the JMFC has issued a notice to the PI demanding an explanation for the failure to register the case and for disobeying the Court order. The Porvorim police remained unavailable for comment.
The department has come under severe scrutiny in the recent few days with similar instances being reported across various police stations.
While the department has been quick to take action in some, although, with variations on punishments to its officers, it has remained tight-lipped on other issues.
