Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar has invited President Droupadi Murmu to inaugurate the 25th Lokotsav Festival to be held from December 19-21.
Tribal Welfare Minister Ramesh Tawadkar met the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi and extended the invitation to her in the presence of Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar.
During his interaction with President Murmu, which lasted for about 30 minutes, Tawadkar informed the President that the Lokotsav Festival at Canacona, organised by the Adarsh Yuva Sangh every year since 2000, has become a major festival, showcasing Goa’s rich art, culture, sports, folk art, naturopathy, Ayurveda, and the tribal traditions.
He also mentioned that tribal and folk artistes from various states in the country attend this festival every year to present their art and skills, adding that artistes from some countries in Asia and Europe will also present their art and culture at this year's Lokotsav.
President Murmu said she would try to attend the festival.
Tawadkar also briefed the president about the Shram Dham initiative through the Balram Charitable Trust to build houses for the poor and needy across Goa and in other States, as well as the various initiatives in the educational sector in rural areas through the Balram Education Society.
