The ongoing session of the Goa Legislative Assembly brought some significant developments, as the government responded to various pressing issues, making concessions in response to opposition demands.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured the Assembly that immediate assessments would be conducted for farmers whose crops were damaged by the recent heavy rains.
He promised that these farmers, including those growing seasonal vegetables and fruits, would receive compensation before the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
This decision was welcomed by the Assembly members, as it addresses the concerns of the agricultural community, which has been hit hard by the unseasonal downpour.
In a move aimed at improving governance at the grassroots level, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho announced the implementation of an AI-based facial recognition system across all panchayats in Goa within the next six months.
The new system is expected to curb issues related to late attendance and absenteeism among panchayat staff, a problem frequently raised by several MLAs.
Complaints had been lodged about panchayat secretaries and subordinate staff being frequently absent, causing inconvenience to the public.
The AI-based system is seen as a significant step toward ensuring accountability and efficiency in panchayat administration.
Additionally, Chief Minister Sawant assured the Assembly that the police would be directed to monitor the state borders closely to prevent the entry of Ganesh idols made from plaster of Paris (PoP) into the Goa market.
This measure is in response to concerns about environmental harm caused by PoP idols, and it aims to encourage the use of eco-friendly materials for the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
These developments reflect the government's responsiveness to both opposition concerns and public grievances, marking a productive session of the Assembly.
