PORVORIM
Despite efforts to lay a new 1 km water pipeline at Cunchelim are in progress on a war footing, residents in Porvorim continue to face acute water shortage and will have to wait till next week for water supply to be restored.
Residents in Porvorim have been hit by water shortage for over a week and water supply from the Assnora Water Treatment Plant is presently being released by PWD to residents of Porvorim every alternate day and that too for half an hour.
Those residing in residential buildings are among the worst affected as water sumps cannot be filled due to low pressure and residents have to solely depend on water tankers.
When contacted, WRD Chief Engineer Pramod Badami said work to lay a new 1 km water pipeline at Cunchelim is in progress on a war footing day and night.
“The department is aware of the hardships being faced by residents. Tourism Minister and local MLA Rohan Khaunte is also monitoring the situation every day.”
“Work to lay the pipeline of 100 metres is pending and this work will be completed within a few days. Once this work is completed, water supply to water treatment plant at Porvorim will commence and the PWD will be able to release water from next week. Till then, we appeal to residents of Porvorim to bear with this inconvenience,” said Badami.
