South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes on Wednesday handed over a memorandum to the Union Education Minister with a plea to review the commencement of the new academic year in Goa in April.
Arguing why the schools should not open in April-May at the peak summer heat, the MP said the Goa government has failed to take into account the weather conditions in Goa before deciding to start the new academic year from April 7.
“The weather situation in Goa and Delhi is different in the month of April. While summer sets in Goa in April and continues till May, the situation is different in Delhi, where summer starts in May and ends in June,” he said.
Saying the parents are justified in their protests against the commencement of the new academic year on April 7, the South Goa MP said the Goa government has blindly followed the Delhi situation without taking the ground factors in Goa into consideration.
