MARGAO
Goa Forward chief Vijai Sardesai warned the government and the police machinery not to take the people for granted by trampling upon their democratic rights.
He also warned the Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd not to use police force to file false cases against the people of Goa if the RVNL wants to continue its office from Fatorda.
“I warn the local police officers not to manhandle the people just because the IPS officers are issuing them the instructions. These officers will all leave the State one day, but you will remain here,” he said.
Sardesai recalled that he had to literally knock the doors of the district as well as the police higher-ups just to get the sound permission at the Lohia Maidan, Margao to hold the Opinion Poll Day celebrations. “If we Goans do not assert ourselves and defy the authorities, a time will come when they will take us for granted,” he said, while saying that the ongoing agitation should be intensified on the lines of the farmers’ agitation in Punjab and Haryana.
Reminding that the Rail Vikas Nigam’s office is located in his Fatorda constituency, he warned the Railways that they may have to pack their bags if they bulldoze with the track-doubling project.
