Sanjeev Verekar wins Sahitya award for his Konkani poems

Senior Journalist and writer Sanjeev Verekar won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi award for his collection of Konkani poems ‘Raktachandan’.

The award was announced by the Akademi on Thursday.

Verenkar is a popular litterateur and has had a long innings working as a full-time journalist in Goa's Konkani and Marathi newspapers.

He worked for the now defunct Konkani daily Sunaparant for a few years of its inception and then for several years for the Marathi daily Navprabha for a couple of decades until he retired in 2020.

Meanwhile, Sumedha Kamat Dessai was conferred the Akademi's award for children's literature for her book 'Sumiche Kotangri’.

Also the Yuva Sahitya Award was conferred on Shraddha Garad for her collection of poems ‘Kavya Parmal’.
