Sawant urges Engg students to support Tamnar, govt projects

PANAJI
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant exhorted engineering students to take to social media platforms and present "facts" to counter negative propaganda on government projects.

Sawant who was speaking to an audience of students at the Goa Engineering College in Farmagudi on Thursday made special mention of the Tamnar power project at Mollem.

The project promoted by Vedanta owned Sterlite is crucial to Goa's power needs but was facing opposition, Sawant said.

"As you know it is a 400 KV line coming from Karnataka to Goa," Sawant said, adding that if this transmission line is not complete people will not be able to use air-conditioners and fans in two years.

He asked the students to state facts and speak in favour of the government projects.

Being engineers you know the reality of the power in Goa. We expect that facts should be placed before the people," Sawant said further.

The Chief Minister also raked up the IIT campus project which his government was forced to scrap from the site alloted at Sattari due to local opposition.

Sawant said it will be a great loss to Goa if we can't provide land for the IIT campus and next generations for 25 years will suffer.
