SFX row: HC grants Velingkar relief, to appear for questioning today

Panaji: The High Court of Bombay at Goa granted conditional partial relief to Subhash Velingkar in the anticipatory bail application filed in connection with the FIR charging him with making offensive remarks about the relics of St. Francis Xavier. 


He is directed to appear before the Investigating Officer at Bicholim police station at 5 pm for questioning. 


The Bench of Justice Bharat Deshpande began the hearing this morning when Velingkar assured the Court to cooperate with the investigation. 


He however pleased an assurance from the State that he would not be arrested. The Bicholim police expressed uncertainty about whether an arrest would take place, citing that the investigation is still in progress.


The Court has adjourned the plea for the next hearing on Tuesday.

Panaji: After much delay, the City Corporation has finally commenced the demolition of the old Municipal market building, housing the fish market.
