Some newbie party leaders working against interests of Cong: Sardinha

MARGAO
Asserting that the Congress party leadership will take the final call on the party candidate for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha on Thursday charged certain people who have joined the party only recently for working against the interests of the party.

Addressing the media on Thursday at the South Goa District Congress office, Sardinha said one would find many candidates like mushrooms claiming tickets in the runup to the election. “These people, who have joined the party recently, are creating confusion within the ranks on the issue of tickets. They are on the payroll of the BJP. Their agenda is to destroy the Congress party,” he said.

Saying the temple of Lord Ram will be inaugurated later this month, the South Goa MP said he would pray to Lord Ram to give wisdom to the people to stop division in the name of caste and creed and to help the people love one another. “No religion preaches hate and hatred. All religions preach love and brotherhood,” he said.

The South Goa MP told the media that he has taken up with the Union Home Minister and Minister for External Affairs the issues of Portuguese passport and OCI, saying he is awaiting a reply from the Minster, MEA.

Saying he had raised in parliament the issue of the delay in granting political reservations for the Scheduled Tribes in Goa, Sardinha demanded that the centre resolve the long-pending issue immediately so that the ST communities get political reservations in the Assembly in the immediate future. He also called upon the government to accord ST status to the Dhangar community.

On the issue of house numbers issued to structures at Old Goa, the MP called for a probe to find out who had issued the numbers, adding that the concerned Panchayat secretary should be taken to task for issuing the numbers.
