State to finalise stand on ESAs after committee study

PANAJI: To revise the list of villages in the Eco-Sensitive Areas (ESA) of the Western Ghats, the Goa government has set up a committee to study which areas should be excluded from the ESA. Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira informed the media that the committee, chaired by IFS officer and former Chief Conservator of Forest, Dr Pandey, will conduct a detailed study of the draft notification from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change regarding the ESA in the Western Ghats.

Sequeira explained that the State will decide how many villages to include or exclude based on the study’s findings and will then submit its position to the Centre.

Vasco: A major theft occurred at a residential apartment in Zuarinagar, Sancoale, after unknown individuals broke into Bhagwan Gawade’s home during the night of September 27.According to the complaint filed on September 28, the burglars forced their way into the apartment between 10:30 PM on September 27 and 7:00 AM on September 28 by breaking the latch on the main door. Gold jewellery worth Rs 1,85,000 was stolen.
