Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting with top Goa Police officials to assess the law and order situation in the wake of the recent Baina and St Cruz robberies, where the burglars still remain at large.
Speaking to reporters after the marathon meeting that concluded late night, the CM said he has directed police to intensify night patrolling, enforce nakabandis at strategic locations and conduct random checks to prevent a repeat of such crimes.
“We took a review and issued strict instructions to the police that such things should not happen or be repeated in Goa. Not only should detection be high, but police must also ensure such crimes are not repeated,” Sawant said.
He added that the government is also contemplating invoking the National Security Act (NSA), if required, to curb crime in the State. “All necessary steps will be taken,” he said replying to media questions on invoking of NSA.
The meeting was attended by DGP Alok Kumar, the IGP, all SPs, DySPs and PIs. Sawant directed the police to ensure a visible crackdown on criminal activities.
Asked about progress in the Baina robbery case, the CM said the investigation is underway and expressed confidence that all the cases will be cracked soon. The St Cruz house break in where Kusum Chauhan's family lost Rs 25 lakh cash and jewelery to unknown thief on November 14, is also still unsolved.
Suggestions and measures for the future course of action were also discussed, including strategic enforcement changes and deployment of additional personnel. The CM further instructed officials to ensure a decline in road accidents through stricter enforcement.
