Student assault: Children's Court reserves verdict on anticipatory bail plea

PANAJI
The Children’s Court has reserved its order on the anticipatory bail applications filed by the headmistress and a teacher of St Anthony’s Primary School in Veroda, in connection with the assault on a seven-year-old student. The order will be pronounced on Monday.

The Cuncolim police, during the hearing on Friday, opposed the plea submitting to the Court that their custody is necessary to understand the sequence of events and the reasons for the alleged failure to take immediate action into the incident.

Several parents and residents of Balli marched to the police station, demanding the suspension and arrest of the headmistress and class teacher for failing to attend to the victim when she sustained serious head injuries after being punched in the face by her schoolmates.

The father of the girl alleged that the teachers ignored his daughter’s cries for help after she was injured. She was admitted to the ICU at GMC until Thursday, after which she was moved to the general ward.
